Art's birthplace
Art has always been an important part of African culture. We believe in storytelling and good storytellers are given a high social standing in some tribes. Paint and dance are both used as forms of telling a story, I'm sure you've noticed how black people can go on and on about nothing at all sometimes, I guess it's inbred, it explains why the music world is so full of African faces.

Music was created in Africa and we've got the proof. Want to dance? (pic courtesy SA tourism)

We've also got the rythm!

New Africa
Minds trapped like Africans in cages Taken to Europe to amuse on circus stages
Traditions polluted by western ways
African customs just thrown away
With false cries of entering the new world
And claims of African customs being too old
The West being televised as the best
Come to the West its better then the rest
With its oppression of African minds
and claims that we weren't the masterminds
behind civilisation and organisation
No we couldn't built a strong African nation
There's too much mental erosion
caused by Western pollution
Providing us with no proper solution
to these diseases eradication.
Yes my brother through all this confusion
I am still your keeper
Keeper to the key
The key to that door in the distance
The door that holds our only chance
Our chance to build our Africa they way it should be
The way our forefathers thought it should be
without all this guilt within me
Of hearing of men raping a baby
Without our mothers crying at night
for my brothers who've gone out to fight
to fight the hunger, fight the pain,
fight the betrayal given through promises
promises of a better life for your vote
promises given while cars are being bought
promises, promises, promises,
That door looms closer my brother
and I hold the key my brother
The keeper of the key
The key to that door
to the door that will reveal the day we'll rise again and soar
The day our forefathers will smile their moonbeams
at us as we sew back the seams
the seams to that cloth we tore so long ago
Yes that new Africa behind the door
My Africa, Your Africa
My Azania, your azania

What I've noticed, and many other Africans I'm sure have also seen the same, is the way Africa is portrayed on television. Sure we have our issues but we have far more positive sides too. Hopefully this website is slowly starting to change your point of view.

Much more than a current affairs slot on television

Artwork is an important part of African and South African culture. It is a form of communication and, like dancing, tells a thousand stories.
